About Me

Welcome to Granny's Hoard.
This blog is named in honor of my Granny Janny. She was the queen of garage saling and selling for profit before there was the internet. I've taken what she taught me about garage saling and made it into my livelihood.

I began selling on Ebay in 1998 to make some extra money while I was in college. I started with things around my house and from both of my grandparent's estatnes. I continued to sell on Ebay after college and added Amazon to the mix to sell my old text books. I graduated with a BA in English and Writing in August and then September 11th happened. I couldn't find a job in my field for the next two years. So I continued to sell on Ebay and Amazon and also opened a little flower and gift shop in my small town with my mom. I sold mostly craft and scrapbook supplies from our store. In 2003, I decided to go back to school to get my Masters in Elementary Education. I got married in 2006 and sold things on the side and in the summer to supplement my teaching incom. In 2009 my son was born. I took a break from selling to focus on teaching and raising my son until 2011, when my kindergarten teaching job was unexpectedly cut to part time due to small class size. In a panic, I started listing like crazy on Ebay and Amazon and also discovered Etsy. I also started reading a lot of blogs that made me realize that some people sell online as a full time job. It became a wish of mine that I could stay at home and sell online to help support my family. A wish that I never thought could come true.

I continued teaching part time and eventually full time again and growing my online business until 2013 when I had my daughter. A few hours after she was born I suffered some major complications that resulted in me needing 4 bags of blood and coming very close to losing my life. That was the day I decided I would do whatever it took to be able to stay home with my children.

Fast forward to April 2014, when I submitted my resignation at my teaching job and in August 2014 I officially became a stay at home and full time online selling mom. It hasn't always been easy, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

In 2019, after a lot of soul searching,  I became a single mom.

I currently sell on Ebay, Amazon, Etsy,  and Poshmark. I have over 5000 items in my Ebay store, and over 3000 items listed in the Amazon FBA program. I get my inventory from thrift stores, garage sales, The Goodwill Outlets, free piles, garbage days, family and friends, online and country auctions, retail arbitrage, and I still sell some items from my Granny's Hoard.
